RATCHET
————————————
Name: Ratchet.
Nicknames: Ratch; Docbot; Hatchet.
Age: Roughly five and a half million.
Faction: Autobot.
Rank: High Council member; chief medical officer (formerly).
Alternate Form: Just a plain ol' ambulance.
Primary Residence: Cybertron.

Weaponry/Special Abilities:
As a medic, Ratchet has an arsenal of tools at his disposal — though they're meant for medical procedures, he knows full well how to defend himself if it comes down to it. Most notably, he has scalpels built into each arm that may be transformed at will, as well as a welding torch used for cauterizing and sealing welds. He has a medical scanner built into his right forearm, used for diagnosing problems in a patient's systems.
Holoform:
Ratchet's holoform is a short, rotund man in his late forties with a shock of curly ginger hair and an assortment of freckles covering his pale skin. Though he doesn't often like to use the program, it's rarely seen without a pair of thick red-framed glasses and his signature scowl, translated perfectly across species.
Any Team Affiliations?: Team Prime.
Notable Partners:
- Optimus Prime/Orion Pax; an old friend from before the war turned fearless commander turned old friend again. Ratchet has known Orion for most of his life and served as his chief medical officer and briefly as his nominal second-in-command while on Earth. Despite their occasional difference in opinion, Ratchet thinks the world of him and remains doggedly loyal to this day.
- Undertone; the mini-con assigned to help Ratchet track down war criminals following the end of the Great War. Ratchet appreciates him for his silence, even if he doesn't find him particularly engaging.

Significant Other: n/a.
Likes:
- Medical science; for as long as he can remember, Ratchet has been fascinated by the marvels of Cybertronian construction. He's spent much of his life studying medicine, and continues to dedicate his life to advancing scientific discovery.
- Working; Ratchet is the kind of bot who feels lost without a welding torch in his hand or a patient on his table, and he finds himself most at peace when he's able to focus entirely on the task at hand. Between his obligations as a doctor and his relatively new duties as one of the High Council, he has his hands quite full and likes it that way.
- Reading; during the rare occasion Ratchet has a free day, he can be found with his face pressed into a datapad. Usually medical journals or a new thesis or even Earth texts, as long as it's new knowledge, he'll likely try to get his hands on it.
- Cute things; despite all outward appearances, Ratchet is a soft soul at heart, and he can't resist the allure of a tiny, fluffy creature. When it comes to cute cat videos, it's shockingly — and, in Ratchet's opinion, embarrassingly — easy to make him laugh.
- Cybertron; Ratchet's always been deeply interested in their planet's history and construction, and watching it die had been one of the hardest moments in his life. Now, as a member of the High Council, he dedicates most of his time to keeping it running smoothly and fairly, and preventing history from repeating itself.
Dislikes:
- Parties and loud gatherings; with his youthful Academy days far behind him, Ratchet has discovered that parties and clubs only serve to give him a pounding headache, and all he wants is a little peace. Kids these days.
- Recklessness; though he couldn't have built a career without it, nothing annoys Ratchet more than a bot who's reckless with their health or the health of others. He has very little patience for troublemakers and daredevils.
- Idle hands; Ratchet has worked under dire circumstances for so long, he's not sure he can ever really relax. Without something to work on, someone to help, he feels restless and unfulfilled, so he does his level best to keep himself busy.
- Insubordination; Ratchet has a strong moral code and sticks to it like glue. He can't stand injustice or rule-breaking, and oftentimes has a strong word for those flagrantly disrespecting authority. Or a strong wrench.
- Pseudo-Science; while he can appreciate myth and legend in the context of historical analysis — if barely — Ratchet has absolutely no patience for that kind of mystical hooey being taken as fact in this day and age. He's about as spiritual as a hunk of lead.
Personality:
At first blush, Ratchet is surly and unfriendly and perpetually grumpy, but at second blush — well, it's probably more of the same. Ratchet has a very small well of patience, and when he's surrounded by a bunch of rowdy soldiers, it seems to be sapped fairly quickly. He's easy to annoy, and he has a tendency to lash out at whatever's testing him at any given moment, unafraid to raise his voice and hurl a few threats (or wrenches) if it means getting himself a little peace. His short fuse and hot temper often gets him into trouble he's too stubborn to back out of, and his impatience tends to make situations worse than they technically need to be. He has a reputation for being a no-nonsense, prickly doctor, and it's well deserved.
Beneath his gruff exterior, however, Ratchet has a startlingly tender heart; as a doctor, he cares deeply for those around him — even those he doesn't know — and will never shirk the opportunity to help someone in need. He's dedicated himself to the health and well-being of all Cybertronians, and it shows through if not in his words, than in his tireless action. A bleeding heart is a dangerous thing to have, especially in war, so he does his level best to remain professional and empirical, at least to anyone who doesn't know him well. He is fiercely loyal to those who've earned his trust and respect, and his dedication is something that is not easily lost.
Ratchet has an endless fascination with medical science and has earned himself the reputation of one of Cybertron's best doctors because of it. He considers himself a scientist first and foremost, and he stubbornly holds to his unwavering belief in logic and fact. He's naturally brilliant and quick to pick up new mechanical skills, and he's constantly seeking to better his abilities or his knowledge. This lends itself to a massive ego, and while Ratchet tries to stay humble, his pride often rears its ugly head and leads him to making rash decisions.
History:
Forged out in the boonies, Ratchet's natural lust for knowledge quickly brought him to the capitol of Iacon, where he enrolled in the Academy's medical unit and pursued his calling as a doctor. There he met an archivist by the name of Orion Pax, and the two became fast friends. By the time the war rolled around, he'd already made a name for himself as a talented physician, and he did not hesitate in entering the Autobot's corps at the newly-named Optimus Prime's side.
The war paid a heavy price; their home planet, which Ratchet held much love for, was rendered inhabitable by the feud, leaving Ratchet with a fount of bitterness and resentment. As their fight found them on the planet Earth, Ratchet's dedication to the Autobots was constantly at odds with their new environment and the beings that inhabited it. He struggled with the culture shock, entrenching him deeper into his grumpy persona, but remained steadfast in his hope for a revived Cybertron.
And so it was. The war ended, Cybertron was habitable again, and — and Optimus was gone. There always seemed to be a price to pay; as in everything, a balance to be struck. Equivalent exchange.
Before he could even find his footing, Ratchet was thrown into a brand new Cybertron, and quickly cast out of it as fast as he could process. Autobot seemed to become a dirty word, a curse of a time long since passed. Ratchet wanted to argue, to yell and throw things and say we did this for you, we fought for this, Optimus died for this — but he bit his tongue and went, traveling the universe with Undertone for years, tracking down war criminals and trying not to think about how the war heroes weren't being treated any better.
He ended up back on Earth, in an ironic twist of fate. There, he found Optimus again, and there, he found a purpose again. They traveled back to Cybertron as the old Council fell, and Ratchet found himself nominated into a Council position in their stead. He could hardly argue; after all, he's loved Cybertron for as long as he could remember, and after so many years away, he wanted nothing more than to care for it and see it prosper once more. The next hundred years passed in a contented blur, and Ratchet is happy to see hundreds more coming.
