A girl stood alone in a lush green forest just outside Crown City, her eyes closed and her breathing focused. The forest was alive with the light chirps of birds and the scurry of squirrels and other forest critters, but Rin did not pay attention. Her right hand wandered over to the tessen at her side, it was closed and hung loosely by her side. She felt its cool metal, such a stark contrast to the warm air of the forest. The sun beamed down on her from where she stood bathing her in its heat. Raising her arms she tied her hair up into a tight bun, using a metal pin to keep it in place, the last thing she needed was her hair getting in the way.
Swiftly she grabbed her war fans and opened them with a snap, bending her right leg parallel to the ground she extended her left foot forward so that she was just mere inches from the ground. Her left hand clutched the fan in a firm grip as it followed her left foot, her other tilted upward. The light reflect off the surface of her fans, the shiny silver metal glittering in the sun’s rays. She stepped through the motions slowly. Slashing the metal blades of her war fans at an imaginary opponent. Her steps were graceful, but as she sped up so did the brutal nature of her attacks.
With one quick snap she closed her tessen and extended her arm launching the metal fan at a nearby tree. It whistled through the air as it buried itself into the tree bark. Rin opened her amber eyes as she stared at her work, a small smirk crossed her face but it quickly faded. Almost perfect, Rin’s face twisted into a displeased grimace. Almost isn’t good enough.
Just as she was about to retrieve her tessen she paused. Reopening the fan still in her possession she assumed her defensive position. Someone’s watching.
“Show yourself.” Rin demanded.
