Andy was still trying to wrap his head around what a “vacation” was.
Apparently though, both he and Soundwave needed one. Or so he assumed since the mech had decided to take him on one. And once he’d read they were often some sort of relaxing getaway he understood why. Things had been really stressful since Jake had been brought in and investigations into the ring had begun in earnest. No doubt Soundwave needed the TLC from the hunt for Ratbat and whoever else worked for him.
Andy himself was mostly excited to get out of Darkmount for a bit. He’d been in there a good few months, and while it now definitively felt like home he had been wanting to see more of what life had to offer. And while he made himself useful whenever he could on base he hadn’t yet been offered any field work beyond going back with Blitzwing to the arena for a short time.
Pulling his backpack that one of their Autobot allies had brought him during a visit over his shoulders. He took a deep breath and made his way toward Soundwave’s office, figuring as usual he could find his foster father there. He gave a gentle but loud enough knock on his door. “Hey Wave, you in there?”
Soundwave gave a nearly inaudible sigh as he braced himself for his "vacation." The faceless mech was not the vacationing sort, though with the events of the passed few days, more notably the cracking of his visor, he had been ordered to stay off the case for a bit. I'm not a youngling, I don't need a break and I don't need to be coddled. Then again, this was for the boy too. He has seen and been through much, perhaps this will be somewhat enjoyable.
"Hey Wave, you in here?"
Standing up from his work station he opened the door, looking down he was greeted with the sight of the little human. His shoulders relaxed a bit as he gazed at the child. He offered a small nod and motioned for the boy to follow him. Most caretakers would take children somewhere warm, tropical, but Soundwave had a much more educational place in mind.
They got as far as the beginning of Dark Mount's landing strip when he transformed into the dark sleek jet that had loamed the Autobots and their human friends many years ago.
Andy followed Soundwave with a little bit more excitement.
He could imagine that the mech wasn’t too keen on the vacation thing. But honestly he had seemed so tense when answering the door that he couldn’t imagine that the mech may not have needed it even if he wouldn’t admit it openly.
He hopped into the cockpit quickly, grinning from ear to ear. “So where are we going anyway, Soundwave? You don’t strike me as the big city or tropics type,” he pointed out. After all, he didn’t even think Soundwave would be the type that wanted to pal around at the beach. As much as he seemed keen on giving Andy a typical childhood. “I bet there are lots of cool places we can that aren’t like that though.”
"Indeed I am not." Soundwave took to the skied smoothly as he charted his course to Kaon. His nearly silent engine gave a gentle hum. Some would say bringing him to Kaon was hardly a smart move, but he felt sure that the child was safe in his care. He may not have been Megatron, but the third in command had a reputation that was all his own. "I like to think of this as less of a vacation and more of a field trip. You said you never went to school, correct? Well now you shall receive some education."
The nose of the jet dipped slightly as he aimed to land in an old part of Kaon. The streets were busy and bustling with life as Kaon often was. The streets were much cleaner than Soundwave remembered them in his youth. He remembered walking down these streets, just another face in the crowd. Just one mech in a sea of other bots tossed aside by the caste system. It felt odd to be home, and to see that his old streets were so different.
"Welcome to my old home. Downtown Kaon." He transformed and stood to his full height. How many years ago was it that I last walked this road? A million, perhaps more? He looked down at the boy with a gentle gaze. "Think of it as a history trip. Feel free to ask questions and explore, though don't stray too far from my side."
Soundwave eyed a building in the distance with acute interest. It was a building he knew all to well. The arena. Silently he motioned for the boy to follow behind him as he strode to the old structure. He was surprised it was still standing, he was sure the Autobots would've torn it down.
